A modern Hindu almanac combining classical Vedic tradition with precise astronomical calculations.
Panchangam (పంచాంగం) literally means "five limbs" — pancha (five) + angam (limb). It is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac that has been used for thousands of years to determine auspicious times for rituals, festivals, and daily activities.
The five limbs are the foundation of every timing decision in Hindu tradition:
Lunar day — one of 30 phases in a lunar month, calculated from the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. Every 12° of separation = one tithi.
Day of the week — each ruled by a planet (Sunday→Sun, Monday→Moon, Tuesday→Mars, Wednesday→Mercury, Thursday→Jupiter, Friday→Venus, Saturday→Saturn).
Lunar mansion — one of 27 constellations the Moon passes through. Each spans 13°20' of the zodiac. Key for muhurtam selection and birth charts.
Combination — calculated from the sum of Sun and Moon sidereal longitudes. 27 yogams, each spanning 13°20'. Determines the nature and quality of a day.
Half a tithi — 60 karanams per lunar month. Seven moving types repeat cyclically (Bava to Vishti), and four are fixed (Shakuni, Chatushpada, Nagava, Kimstughna).
Beyond the five limbs, the Panchangam also tracks Masam (lunar month), Paksham (fortnight), Samvatsaram (year name from the 60-year Jupiter cycle), Ruthuvu (season), and auspicious/inauspicious time windows like Rahu Kalam, Abhijit Muhurtam, and Brahma Muhurtam.
All astronomical calculations run in pure Python using algorithms from Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms (2nd edition). No external ephemeris files. The app computes Sun and Moon longitudes via periodic correction series, applies the Lahiri ayanamsa to convert from the tropical to the sidereal (Vedic) zodiac, derives all 5 panchangam elements from those longitudes, and calculates location-specific sunrise/sunset to determine Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam, Gulika Kalam, and other time windows.
Accuracy: Sun ±0.01°, Moon ±0.02°, Ayanamsa ±0.01°, Sunrise/Sunset ±1 minute, Tithi boundaries ±2 minutes versus authoritative Vedic sources.
Complete 5-element almanac for any date, plus sunrise/sunset and auspicious time windows.

This app uses the following conventions, which may differ from other panchangams:
Different panchangams use different ayanamsas (Lahiri, Raman, KP…), regional conventions (Amanta vs. Purnimanta), and sometimes tradition-specific rules for festival fixing. This app uses Lahiri + Drik Ganita + Amanta. For major ceremonies, defer to your family's traditional pandit.
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the official standard adopted by the Government of India's Calendar Reform Committee. Value is computed dynamically for every date via Meeus' formula.
Strictly Drik Ganita — every planetary longitude is computed from scratch using VSOP87 / Meeus periodic correction series for each date. No precomputed tables.
Yes — install the app to your home screen (PWA). Previously viewed days and the UI remain available offline. The AI Assistant and live features (IP geo, share) need a connection.
Free to use. It sees only the panchangam data currently displayed on your screen plus your question. It can explain what a tithi means, suggest auspicious windows, summarize a festival, or translate a term — all in your selected language.
The astronomical math is accurate to within minutes and matches authoritative Vedic sources. However, a traditional muhurtam also considers family customs (gotra, kula devatha, samskaras), chart analysis, and regional practice. Use this app to shortlist dates, then confirm with a qualified pandit.
Email madhukar.konda@gmail.com — feature requests, bug reports, regional-variant suggestions, and corrections are all welcome.
This app is provided as a computational aid to traditional panchangam. For major ceremonies and muhurtams, please consult a qualified pandit or jyotishi who can factor in your specific family customs.
